I was asked by Marisa beauty and fashion editor from Women 24 to chat about the trend of contouring your eyes and how to achieve it. We see so many celebrities and fashion week shows with gorgeous skin and contoured eyes. Contouring is all about enhancing your eyes and giving them shape. If you don’t follow w24.co.za then you can check out the article here.

Makeup doesn’t have to be complicated and so many try master the smokey eye or the feline flick. With contouring your eyes you can look oh so pretty and make your eyes really pop. Its about focusing the darker shades on the crease of your lids and and bottom lash line then using a lighter eyeshadow or a shimmer to create the definition. You need to invest in a good blending brush, a pencil brush and a palette that can take you from day to night. Use neutral shades like taupes and tan shades to create the contour.

Here is me in action for Poetry creating the contoured eye using one of my favourites the Mac warm neutrals palette and then the finished look for the shoot. You can see I have created definition for the eyes and then added a lighter cream shimmer eyeshadow for the lids to create the contrast:

Skin Tone Tip:

Depending on skin tone, lighter neutral shades are preferred for fair skin tones, tan shades for medium and chocolate shades for darker skin tones.  If you have a darker skin tone then work with bronze shades for your lighter shade and if you are fair, champagne shades work best.

Products I love:

I love using the MAC Cosmetics warm neutrals palette as has a great selection of neutral shades for all skin tones or the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette or their new basics matte palette. Of course there are a whole load of palettes out there but these are goodies as they have great shades for fair to darker skintones. Also long wearing cream shadows that have a shimmer are amazing my favourite is Giorgio Armani eye tints.
