Valentine’s Day Make Up

Valentine’s Day is only a couple days away and if you are going out on a hot date then make sure you think about your make up look. I was just playing around with the classic look and changed the lipstick shade from the usual bright red to a dark red and added a touch a glitter to the eyes.

The key make up for this look:

For the eyes I used the Clarins 3 Dot Liner that comes out next month is SA love it and then added a touch of glitter in the inner corner of the eyes on the liner with Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Liner in Midnight Cowboy. For the brows I kept it pretty natural and just applied a touch of Anastasia Beverley Hills Tintel Brow Gel.

For my skin the key elements was the Bourjois Healthy Mix Gel Serum and the Clarins Instant Concealer which also launches next month to give the fresh looking skin and for contouring and highlighting I used the Stila Sweet Treats Bronzing Powder and Mac Mineralise Skin Finish in Porcelain Pink (this link takes you to what is available in SA online).

The Lips I went for my trusty mac lip pencil and lipstick using the Mac Burgundy Lip Pencil to create the definition and Mac Dubbonet lipstick.

Remember you don’t have to use these products I just wanted to give a little of Valentine’s make inspiration.

This is another video I filmed in the Women24 studio and its all about how to apply blush, what tools to use and shades to go for. Make up can be daunting for some so here is the video and showing you how easy it is to apply. There is nothing nicer then a healthy glow to the skin or a pop of colour when you are feeling pale especially in the winter. Thanks again to the lovely Jana from women24 for being my model:

Make sure you invest in a blush brush when it comes to powder if you going for a cream blush you can get away with using your fingers.

Hope you enjoy the video.

How To Create a Vintage Vamp Lip

I recently attended a Mac Techniques workshop for AW13 trends and Michelle Lee showed us a look that included the lip pencil Night Moth (love it) and a dark berry lip I used Hang Up its a Creamsheen so it glides on beautifully and hydrates the lips. So here are some pictures and a step by step guide to creating the Vintage Vamp Berry Lip:

1) Hydrate your lips first this is so important as you don’t want your lips to dry out. I am using my trusty carmex its the best for me.

How to lip2) Line your lips with the lip pencil this ensures that you create the perfect lip and shape and also stops the lipstick from bleeding. I am using Mac lip pencil Nightmoth. How to dark lip 23) Next apply the lipstick its easy to apply as you have already traced the shape of your lips with the pencil. Using the lipstick straight onto the lips gives a real natural look rather than applying with a lip brush. How to dark lip 3

4) Here is the finished look:

Berry LipOn the rest of my face I massaged in Bourjois healthy Mix all over my face to get that dewy look, I concealed using Mac Select Moisture Cover in NC30 under my eyes and around my nose and any blemishes. For contouring I used my favourite Hoola By Benefit and on my cheeks I applied the new Michael Kors Sexy Flush (launches mid Dec) and for my lashes I applied my new favourite mascara from Clarins Be Long Mascara in no 1 Intense Black (launches 24th March 14).

I recently did a shot and the brief was a road trip/festival vibe. Its been big in Europe and now living in South Africa with Spring upon us the festival season is about to begin with Rockin the Daisies. So what is the look for that is really on trend for festivals? The usual look is usually quite natural with cool textured/tousled hair with maybe a head piece or coloured tips. In the image above we went for a really natural look with beautiful textured hair (my lovely colleague Alet did the hair). Here is how the look was created and I will also give some extra tips for festival beauty:

  • I prepped the skin with moisturiser but if you are in the sun go for a suncream with a high SPF before applying your make up.
  • For the skin I kept it really natural and used the Georgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and buffed into the skin. If you want a more natural vibe then go for a BB Cream or Tinted moisturiser instead.
  • For the eyes I used a long wearing cream based shadow from Ellis Faas but its not available in SA so try maybelline Colour Tattoo Eyeshadows in one of the nude or gold shades its a great budget product that is easy to apply and has great staying power.
  • I filled in the brows using Mac Brow Pencil in Fling its a great way to fill brows and make them look really natural but complete your look especially when you are going for more natural make up.
  • For the lashes I applied Benefit They’re Real Mascara but for a festival try a waterproof based mascara that will really last no matter what the weather.
  • I highlighted on top of the cheek bones with Mac irredescent loose powder in Silver Dusk.
  • For contouring I buffed under the cheek bones with Mac Mineralise Skin Finish Natural in Medium Dark.
  • For the cheeks opt for a powder over a cream so it will last longer I used a peach shade this is a perfect colour for lighter skin tones and if you are a dark skin tone go for a deep pink.
  • For the lips I used a nude lipstick but you may just want to apply some lip balm and keep those lips hydrated or pop on some gloss.
  • To set the make up spritz with Mac Fix + or a translucent Finishing powder especially if its hot and you are sweating.

For the hair:

  • Spritz a heat protectant , hair spray and sea salt spray and blow dry scrunching the hair in your hands.
  • To create etexture take one each sections twist the hair and then apply a flat iron up and down the hair to create the tousled look.
  • In this shoot the ends of the hair were coloured this is a great way to give a bit of something to your look. Either spray the ends with colour spray or in this instance Alet used coloured hair chalk.

Nails: If your look is really natural then go for a pop of colour on the nails and if you don’t like too bright try a Cobalt Blue shade its a great way to be on trend.

If you don’t want to go too natural opt for a colour gel liner to make you look pop, or a coloured eye shadow to give a more summery feel or an orange lip.

For your body if you want to add some colour use Mac Face and Body and apply a shimmer down your legs and on your arms.

So September is almost at its end and have gotten my hands on some new products which I have been absoloutely loving and have blogged about a some of them in my product reviews. Each month I find I love certain products so here is what are my favs for the month of September:

Nars Luminous Moisture Cream – Big backstage in the SS14 fashion weeks, of course needed it for my kit. I love this cream it is very light and melts into the skin leaving a beautiful luminous glow and is a perfect canvas for prepping the skin before applying the foundation. LOVE

Lancome Blush In Love no 20 – A beautiful two toned blush with a shimmer pink and a shimmer coral, this blush looks so beautiful on the skin for this spring weather and adds a beautiful pop of colour to the skin. Wear this blush with minimal foundation and  lots of mascara and a pop of gloss on the lips.

Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes Mascara – By far the best mascara I have gotten my hands on. At the moment only available in the UK and launched at the beginning of September. Charlotte tilbury is a celebrity make up artist and launched her own make up line earlier this month. This mascara really is amazing. You do not have to curl the lashes just wiggle the mascara from root to tip and the lashes are automatically curled. A key staple for my pro kit.

Maybelline Colour Tattoo Eyeshadow – I blogged about this eyeshadows earlier this month. I absoloutely love them my favourite shade for the moment is Bad to be Bronzed but they really are great quality products. They are so easy to apply either use your finger tips or a flat brush. They lasdt for ages and can be worn alone or as a base for your eyeshadow. I personally love them on their own.

Mac Mineralise Skinfinish in Lightscapade – I discovered this highlighter after watching a Mac make up tutorial. I love the Mineralise Skinfinishes any way and this one really is beautiful for lighter to medium skintones. A beautiful highlighter for luminous skin!

Emma has her own youtube channel My Life in Pink and is also a very successful model and she asked if we could film a tutorial and a behind the scenes video (this will be live in a week or so).

So here is the video on how to create a smokey eye with black and silver:

Here are the products I used:

Mac Blacktrack Fluidline Gel Liner
Mac Eyeshadow in Carbon Shanaz
YSL Pure Chromotics Eyeshadow Palette in No 10 – Silver shade
Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara
Mac 217 Blending Brush

How To Work Colour Mascara

There are so many ways to update your look and keep it fresh without having to go to crazy especially if you are not so brave when it comes to make up. Colour Mascara is a great way to make your look fun and fresh and even if you don’t want to go with a bright colour there are colours like dark blue and plum that are still modern ways to freshen up your look.

There are more and more brands that are introducing colour mascara as its become so on trend on the catwalk. Its an easy way to update your look and give it that extra edge.

Here is me giving it a try. I have used Kiko Super Colour Mascara in no 01 which is a beautiful deep purple and really makes the lashes pop especially in the daylight:

Paired with a fresh contoured face and a nude lip or a slightly brighter lip can be really cool if you have a tan. Its such a fresh and pretty look. In the Stella Macartney and Donna Karen SS13 shows bright mascara was definitely a key trend but not everyone is brave enough to go with bright pink:

Screen Shot 2013-09-12 at 12.24.36 Screen Shot 2013-09-12 at 12.24.54

The darker the skin tone the brighter the colour will work as most colours suit really bright colours. Also match up mascara so as to compliment  the colour of your eyes and make your eye colour pop even more. Purple’s look amazing on hazel/brown eyes and blue eyes, blue mascara of all the shades looks great on all colour eyes and it seems to be the most on trend colour and green will definitely compliment hazel and blue eyes.

Kiko and Inglot have a great range of colours :
