We all know Pat McGrath is the legend of legend makeup artists so when I got offered the chance to watch a live video stream of Pat talking trends I was in. As Global Director of Max Factor Pat Macgrath talks in depth on each look she created for each show and focused on a look and products from Max Factor she uses. The fashion shows each season set trends for makeup artists around the world and for the every day woman who loves makeup. I shared some of my fav looks from the AW16 shows but Pat Macgrath talks about the key trends across the board and what we need to be embracing.
1.The All or nothing according to Pat is makeup was either stripped bare focusing on amazing skin, highlights and basic natural beauty. Or makeup was outrageous and totally out there with black lips being a big trend. Its super bold but looks amazing
2.The New Wave Noir focused on gothic chic to the runway with bold lip colours never seen before like the pastel blue, blue’s and fluorescent orange with either raw skin that was fresh and dewy and satin like skin. This trend is for those who don’t follow the rules and like to rebel. Personally I love it.
3.Scarlet Fever is all about the bold red lips that are edgy with new shades rocking the runway like deep red’s in the Victoria Beckham show, Deep burgundy’s and liquid glossy lips and I am totally in love with this Prada red lip with the rest of the makeup fresh with the no makeup makeup vibe. We need to be looking out for the Max Factor Marilyn Monroe in Sunset Red for the AW16.
4. The Optical Illusion trend is all about highlights and luminous skin where optical illusion is brought to life to the new nudes. its definitely all about fresh glowing skin as seen in the Boss show where the freckles are coming through and the model’s skin has a subtle glow. Taupe for the eyes is definitely a massive trend with either no lipstick or this fresh nude pink and gromed brows. . There is definitely a comback of the 90’s grunge but this season its more subtle. The base that is key for this trend is the Max Factor Miracle Skin Luminizer Foundation that has been buffed into the skin to create a polished effect. I definitely need to get my hands on this one.
5.Smoke signals is all about the revised smokey eye using one shade to create heavy set eyes, smokey and seductive, firece and really cool. Its all about new tones rather than the usual black. The Givenchy show with the chocolate eye is the new cat eye with a different shape and not the gel liner feline flick like we have seen in the past. Its the new cool girl who is a bit glam rock and definitely has an individual style.
6.The Independent spirit trend is all about girls who stray away from the norm and can’t be categorised. The girls for this trend are youthful and free spirited. The skin for this trend is warm and healthy with a glow and golds and bronze’s are a key shade for the eyes. The Anna Sui look is definitely one of my fav’s with a different take on the bronze eye makeup and stands out with the lines on either side of the eyes.
Thanks Pat Macgrath for sharing your insights and Max Factor for sharing with us. So excited to try all the new products coming our way.
