I was asked by Fashion and Beauty editor for Women 24 asked me how to create the mermaid eye trend that seems to be a big beauty trend for SS16/17. The mermaid eye seems to be a makeup look that is taking over fashion week and the red carpet especially in shades of blue. Blue eyeshadow in all shades is a massive trend right now so even if this look isn’t for you get hold of a blue eyeshadow that’s for you and go for it.
The look that was created for Emily Ratajkowski for the Emmy’s is absolutely stunning. Its a combination of teal and navy blue eyeshadow with a navy eyeliner that makes her brown eyes really pop. So for those of you who are wandering how to create this look here are the steps:
1.Prep the eyes with an eyeshadow primer I love Smashbox, Mac or Urban Decay.
2. Apply the teal eyeshadow from the centre of the eyes to the inner corner making sure the shadow joins for the top and the bottom. Apply with a flat brush and then a pencil brush to apply into the inner corners. Try Inglot pure pigment eyeshadow in no 71.
3. Take a navy eyeshadow and apply with a blending brush from the centre of the eye top and bottom and wing out to create a cat eye shape. If you struggle with a blending brush take an angle brow brush and create you shape and then fill in with a flat brush. Try Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in Rich Navy.
4. Line the top lash line and water line with a navy liner and then finish off with mascara on the top and bottom lashes. Try smudge navy liner from Clicks.
I am also loving the look seen at the Diane Von Furstenburg show which is a combination of light green and blue on the top and bottom lash line which is definitely a day time look where as Emily’s is perfect for a night time look.
Do you love the mermaid eye trend?
