Which Foundation To Choose?
Which Foundation To Choose?
I get asked pretty much on a daily basis what foundation to recommend and what’s my favourite. Quite a few of my favs are not available in SA like Nars Sheer Glow, Benefit Oxygen Wow Flawless and Georgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation which I am totally in love with and are great for every day and on photo shoots (LOVE)
However there is still a great selection here from budget to pricey here in SA. But remember when choosing foundation you need to match the foundation to your skin type whether its dry, normal, combination or oily. So here is my list of what I love to use on myself and when on a job:
Bourjois Healthy MixFoundation R169.95: I have blogged about this foundation and included in make up tutorials. I am a big fan of this foundation and have been using it on myself for quite a while. I always get such great comments on how amazing my skin looks and that I look like I am not wearing any make up. For me I like to apply with my fingers and really massage into the skin to get that natural finish, you can also build it up by using a foundation brush. Its vitamin rich and boosts radiance and always makes me look really fresh even though I am always knackered!!!!!
Smashbox HD Liquid Halo Foundation R370: Recently discovered I really do love this foundation. I have tested it out and blogged about it and on Monday filmed a tutorial using the foundation which will be out in the next few weeks. This foundation has light reflecting technology so it blurs out the imperfections and it feels and looks amazing on the skin. It is a sheer to medium coverage so for a more medium coverage press the foundation into the skin using a buffing brush I love using my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. I have added this foundation to my pro kit as I love that much.
Mac Mineralise Moisture SPF 15 R360: A big hit backstage for AW13 on some of the major shows and a big hit with the make up artists. This foundation is a great for that dewy healthy glowing skin and even though it has SPF the foundation looks amazing with a flash camera and its one I have used a lot of times on a shoot and I absoloutely love how the skin looks. With a combination of powders this foundation creates an optical blurring effect that helps dimish imperfections and even out skintone. It has a light reflecting natural satin finish creating a beautiful healthy glowing skin (includes Shea Butter and Vitamin E0. Available online www.maccosmetics.co.za (YAY).
Mac Face and Body R310: This foundation is one of those foundations used by a lot of pro artists as its an amazing product for a sheer glowing finish on the face and great for that no make up make up look, but its also an amazing product to apply on the body for shoots to cheat the tan on the body. The foundation can be very sheer but you can build it up if applied with a buFfing brush. My how to create a healthy glow tutorial will be out in the next few weeks features this foundation. Its a key staple in my kit.
Bobbi Brown Stick R360: This stick foundation never let’s me down on a shoot especially when I am working with darker skin models. The stick foundation gives medium to full coverage and I use this foundation if the model has pigmentation, uneven skintone and bad skin combined with the creamy concealer. I always prep the skin even before I apply any foundation and once prepped this foundation glides onto the skin and gives a beautiful flawless finish in front of the camera. For the darker skin models I usually use 2 shades as I find they have the most uneven skin tone and the Bobbi Brown shades just really work. Its also won make up awards so you know its a goodie.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum Cover Camouflage R415: I love this foundation for model’s that have bad skin or have pigmentation plus its great if your skin is a little bit oily. Best tip for using this foundation is to mix with a little moisturiser as its quite thick and the finish is matt but with the moisturiser it still gives a glow to the skin. It really has great covearge and when in front of the camera under the flash the bad skin is camouflaged and is also a winner for under eyes concealing, when applying under the eyes tap the product in with your index finger.
YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat R540: A little bit more on the expensive side but a beautiful foundation for that luminous finish. YSL describes this foundation as “the illuminating magic light of touche eclat in a foundation”. I like to use this foundation when the model has great skin and it just melts in when applied with a buffing brush and gives the feel of natural beautiful looking skin. The coverage is from sheer to medium coverage so when applying for more coverage press the foundation into the skin either using a beauty blender or a buffing brush so the product stays on the skin.
Hope you enjoyed my post. Will be writing about more budget foundations soon. x
