A couple of weeks ago I was invited to attend a beautiful event hosted and put together by ex Elle magazine editor Jackie Burger. Jackie created Salon 58 after leaving the magazine industry to create an environment where women can come together either as a group or individually to learn how to work with skincare, makeup and styling themselves. Believe it or not a lot of women struggle with makeup application and what skincare to use and what works best it can be really confusing.
The Bare soiree was all about enhancing natural beauty when it comes to skincare and makeup and two of my favourite brands were part of this event, Kiehls and Mac. Even though I am a makeup artist I am really glad I got to be part of this event so I can share with you all because it really was an amazing event for the every day woman. It all started with champagne on arrival and lots of little treats throughout the workshops followed by an introduction from Jackie Burger on what to expect for the event.
We got to hear a little bit about Kiehls and some of the best selling products and which were the most effective and how to apply. If you don’t know about this US brand its all natural and is all about healthy looking skin. Squalene olive fruit oil is in most of the products which really hydrates skin especially throughout winter.
Some key items were used starting with skincare which is key when it comes to makeup. With products like the Lightful softening lotion, Mac Fix + spray and the Lightful serum which I am so going to be buying were used to prep the skin.
Its all about layering when you want that glow from within working with the Mac cream colour bases like Hush and Luna applied with the 159 brush. Hush is for the cheek bones and Luna must be layered under the dark circles, along the nose and cupids bow. Work the concealer in using the conceal and correct palettes also a firm favourite in my pro kit. Keep eyes neutral with the shade Saddle onto the lids, brush up the brows with the gel kit to get natural looking beautiful brows and layer on mascara.
Jackie talked through key wardrobe staples like the denim jacket and how to dress it down and up. Working in items like the classic scarf and neutral tone handbags, how to wear jeans and choosing the right denim for your body type. Working the blazer and trench coat for day or night with the right type of shoe. Including items like the quintessential white shirt and how to wear it. Its all about translating basic pieces and making them your own.
The fashion collaborators for the event were brands like Witchery, Trenery, Country Road, Woolworths, Sunglasses Hut, Stuttafords, Nine West and GAP. The items that are investments and good quality that you don’t have to buy all at once but you can grow year after year.
Sadly I didn’t get to stay for the whole event so I didn’t get to hear from Santa Maria Novella who spoke anout natural fragrances, including perfumes, potporri, wadrobe scents and rose water. At the end of the event guests good browse through the clothes, test out the skincare and get some touch ups from Mac and then finish off with a feast to end the event.Even though I was invited as a guest I was surprised to find out the whole event costs R550 which is amazing value especially when you get to take away a little goodie bag with discount vouchers from Nine West, Sunglasses Hut and Mac as well as a free consultation from Kiehls.
The next Salon 58 Soiree takes place on the 20th June in Stellenbosch and tickets will be avilable on web tickets.com. Its definitely a beautiful event that should be experienced if you looking for tips and tricks in makeup and how to get your wardrobe right.
