Its aleauys nice to be asked about being a makeup artist and getting some recognition for your work. I was recently asked by Aqueelah who now only has her own blog Fashion Breed but also writes for the beauty section of A Fashion Friend which is an online source of fashion and trends in South Africa as well as shoot amazing fashion editorials I wass more than happy to answer some beauty questions for their readers. For the full link of the feature click here.
So here is the Q&A that Aqueela wanted to know and I thought I would share with my readers:
How long have you been working as a hair and make-up artist?
Have been doing makeup for 6 years and hair around 5. I quickly learnt in Cape Town you have to be able to do both.
What’s your favourite beauty trend at the moment?
Am totally into pops of colour right now as I am overseas in the sun and love bright lips and pops of colour on the eyes, whether it’s a coloured liner, a full-on colour on the eyes or a bold lip. It totally lifts up the complexion. [We couldn’t agree with her more on this one, check out our article on bold undereyes here]
Favourite local beauty brand?
Locally I absolutely love Skoon skincare. Am all about natural skincare and this brand never fails to let you down. My definite favourite is the glow drops perfect for that dewy complexion.
Lipstick or lip gloss?
What do you wish women would stop doing in their beauty routine?
It would definitely be wearing foundation that doesn’t match their skin tone. It’s my worst when I see someone with foundation that is too orange, or dark skin girls with foundation that is way to light making them look grey. My absolute worst is when foundation isn’t blended down into the neck so the neck is white and the face is darker.
The best job you’ve worked on so far?
I love doing beauty shoots – they are the best way to be creative. Definitely love shooting for Elle, and one of my fav’s was the eye story I did.
How did you end up working in SA?
I moved here for love and when I fell pregnant with my daughter I knew I needed a change of career and something in the fashion industry. I was introduced to another amazing makeup artist, assisted her, and fell in love with the job.
Have you worked on any famous faces?
Sadly I haven’t painted any famous faces yet. But my preference is working with models to create editorial magic.
What’s the best part of your job?
Changing people’s faces. You can do anything from the subtle to the all-out crazy. But I also love meeting new people and shooting in amazing locations!
Thanks Aqueelah for wrting such nice words about me was greatly appreciated. If you haven’t checked out A Fashion Friend yet then you missing it. Its a great source of info for all you fashion and beauty lovers. Also thanks to my agency SNCM for making it all possible for me.
