Summer is almost upon us in Cape Town and I am very happy I no longer live in cold London (even though I miss my mates and the shopping). Its the season for bright lips and to embrace the key trends. I have gotten my hands on some amazing lipsticks from some amazing brands but have also been impressed by the more budget brands. For me there is nothing prettier or on trend then a flawless fresh face with a bright lip and just lots of mascara on the lashes.  I have included the new Chanel SS Collection out 27th Jan and the Micheal Kors lipstick will be out mid December.

So here are my picks:

Rimmel Apocolips in no 303 Apocoliptic: This is a great budget lipstick and was winner in the UK magazine Company beauty awards. The applicator makes this lipstick easy to apply it glides on beautifully and is highly pigmented plus it feels really hydrating on the lips.

Obsessive Compulsive Lip Tar in Anine: I love this product especially when I am on a shoot. This is a great bright lip colour for this summer trends. Only a little product is needed and make sure to line the lips first to prevent bleeding of the product and pop on some lip balm to keep your lips hydrated before adding any of the lip tar.

Mac Lipstick in Lady Danger: One of the icon lipsticks at Mac I am a big fan of this shade. Its on the more orange side of red so if red is too bold a colour then this is a great shade to rock the Summer bright lip trend. Its a creamy texture with no shimmer and is a great shade for the paler complexions. Love it

Estee Lauder Pure Colour Melting Sun Laquer no 6: If you are frightened to go for a lip that is too bold and too bright this is a great option to still rock the bright lip trend. Its a gloss so it has a pretty finish and is a beautiful orange shade so perfect with a bronzed contoured face and lots of mascara.

Micheal Kors Sexy Bomshell Laquer: This lipstick will be launched mid December I got my hands on this lipstick and I absoloutely love the colour. Firstly it smells amazing it has a citrus smell so big plus and it glides on so smoothly. Give it a couple of coats to get the full colour and when its on your lips it feels so moisturising plus I really love the packaging.

Rouge Allure Velvet Chanel La Diva in no 44: LOVE LOVE this colour. This lipstick is from the new SS collection launching in SA on 27th Jan. I went to the launch last week and got my hands on this beautiful lipstick as well as the lip pencil. Its a bright matt lip but doesn’t dry the lips out. I love this colour with a fresh clean face and lots of highlighting on the face.

Tom Ford Lipstick in no 15 Wild Ginger: I absoloutely love this lipstick and the packaging. Yes it is expensive but its Tom Ford. I was sent this lipstick as a congratulations so am one lucky lady. The texture is beautiful and so luxurious and its a beautiful shade of orange. Fill your brows to complete the look with some contouring and a liquid foundation to give that beautiful dewy finish.

So July is almost over been a busy month of photoshoots and blogging. Each month I seem to use certain products the most so here are the products I used the most and products I have discovered and love:

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation – I just can’t get enough of this foundation. It glides on so beautifully onto the skin and the finish is absolutely beautiful. I have used it for a lot of my shoots. LOVE

Rimmel Wake Me Concealer – Sadly its not available is SA I purchased mine in London. I love this concealer its creamy and blends in beautifully. It has great coverage and brightens under the eye area. I have used this concealer loads and its a big winner let’s hope it comes to SA soon.

Blue Inglot Nail Polish – I did an Elle Style for Less shoot for the September issue and had to do 8 nail changes. I needed a Colbalt Blue colour so I ran to Inglot and have fallen in love with this colour. Its no 112. Its really a beautiful colour.

Mac Ruby Woo Lipstick – I love this shade and its a lipstick colour I go to a lot when doing a red lip. I love Mac lipsticks and I love the texture and shade. A definite must have.

Mac Brow Pencils – A big favourite of mine and I keep reaching for them when creating a full brow. The glide on beautifully and create a natural full brow. Definitely a great investment.

Mac Prep and Prime Base Lumiere – A great light base before applying foundation. Before applying any make up I always feel the model’s skin to see what I need to apply first. This product is very light and gives a beautiful glow to the skin. If you suffer from dry skin then you will need to go for something a little richer or apply some essential oils.

Bourjois Bronzer – I use this bronzer on myself. I really like this product as its matt and great for giving me a natural healthy finish as I am looking very pale at the moment. As its matt it definitely looks more natural.

Mac Stick Foundation – I haven’t used this foundation in forever and recently started using this on myself. This foundation glides on and gives great coverage without having to go in using too much concealer. Also doesn’t leave skin looking shiney but rather a more natural finish.

We saw bright make up all over the SS13 Catwalks and its a trend that is being fully embraced in Europe and the US right now. All the overseas magazines are filled with beauty looks taking on this trend. Being from London I always buy the British magazines like Instyle and Company as they are always setting the trends with make up, hair and nails.

If you are more on the conservative side when it comes to make up  and going bright on your eyes is way too much then try a bright lip or a nail. A fresh face with a pop of colour is a great way to brighten up your look and give you an edge.

Here are some products from my kit:

Mac is one of my favourite brands when it come to choice for all colours. Sadly you can’t get any of the pro products in South Africa so I got my hands on the Chromoline bright colours when I was in London these are amaming for creating a bright feline flick along the lashline. I love their lipsticks and their bright colours like Morange is my all time favourite for a bright lip.

Inglot also has great colour choices and a massive nail selection and what ever colour you fancy they normally have it.  I recently shot for Elle Magazine SA and had to do 8 nail changes I ran straight to Inglot to get the bright colours. If you read my previous post on the Nails Inc collection there are 3 great neon colours for all skintones included. Essie is another great brand for colour choice and bright pops of colour check out their Neon Collection.

Opt for a colour liner or gel along your lash line or a pop of colour on your lash line and keep the rest of your make up really simple. Take an angle brush if you using a gel liner and sweep along the lash line. Alternatively if you feeling daring take a sweep of a bright eyeshadow and blend up the crease and apply the same colour liner in the waterline. Remember if you using an eyeshadow than either apply an eyelid primer like Smashox or apply your foundation and set with powder to make sure your eyeshadow stays on.

If you going for a bright lip make sure your lips are hydrated first with lip balm before applying. Go for bright pinks, orange’s or bright red. Or be daring and apply 2 bright colours apply the lighter on the outside and the darker on the inner part of the lip.

I really do love Stila makeup and if you bave been watching any of my beauty video’s then you will know I love the natural eye palette and the glosses. I was sent the new Stila Colour Balm Lipstick and luckily I was able to chose which shade I wanted so I went for Ruby which is a red lipstick, purely because I love red lipstick’s for myself and am always looking to add red’s to my make up kit. There are 10 shades available in South Africa and can be found at certain Woolworths and Truworths ranging from nude’s, pink’s, orange, purple and the Ruby Red.

I love the packaging and even before trying on the lipstick you can see that its going to be really hydrating. A lot of lipsticks dry the lips but this one doesn’t. I absolutely love it so much so that I featured it in one of my make up tutorials. My lips looked full, glowing and really soft. Even after having a drink it was still on my lips. What I also like about it is that it doesn’t stain and can be easily removed.

The lipstick promises the full pigmentation of a lipstick but with the nourishing properties of a lip balm. It has certain properties that make the lipstick really hydrating and it also has a cooling peppermint oil which makes your lips tingle hence making them look fuller. Most balms don’t give as much coverage but this lipstick balm as you can see has amazing coverage and colour intensity.

For my video I created the look below with the Ruby Stila lipstick. It was all about key steps to making the skin seem brighter and looking more awake (as I always look tired) . There is nothing like a bright lipstick to make your skin seem brighter and fresh. I would definitely reccomend purchasing this lipstick, it’s a bit more costly than your drugstore lipsticks but a little cheaper than the high end brands and retails in South Africa at R210. I can’t wait to try out the other colours.

The video will be up by the end of the week so stay tuned.

Bright Lips and Bold Brows

If you have been following my blog you would have seen an overview of trends from the fashion weeks for SS13 and AW13. Of course around the world spring is here so its all about bright lips and bold groomed brows. If you are in South Africa where I currently live then we are only now hitting the AW12 trends in hair and make up. But even though itts Autumn now in Cape Town the sun is shining so bring on the bright lips.

The look is all about fresh beautiful skin, a touch of mascara, beautiful dark thick brows and a bold lip whether it be red or bright orange. Remember to keep skin looking flawless you need to be consistent with your beauty routine. Cleanse, tone and exfoliate and keep your skin hydrated and of course drink lots of water.

Create the look by using a sheer foundation like Mac face and body if you have really amazing skin try Estee lauder BB cream. To make the skin appear brighter mix a touch of  Stila Stay All Day 10-in-1 Illuminating Beauty balm with your foundation.

A touch of peach blush on the apples of your cheek. Add a highlighter by the tear duct of your eyes to make the eyes pop. Brush brows upwards and fill them in either using pencil or powder. Try Gosh or Bobbi Brown brow kit. To set the brows and ensure the pencil or shadow lasts apply a clear brow gel from Mac. If you already have full brows just brush through and set with the clear gel.

For a bold lip try Morange or Ruby Woo lipsticks from Mac Cosmetics. But remember try the lipstick on first these colours will not suit all skin tones. Or alternatively if you are on a budget try one of the Topshop lispticks. Remember to keep lips hydrated and exfoliated. Use Carmex or Elizabeth Arden 8 hour lip balm.

Hope you enjoyed my post.

Today I visited the Cape Town store of Topshop. Happiness! I am so happy as yet another makeup brand has hit Cape Town giving us more choice at affordable prices. I am a fan of Topshop make up as its on trend and I really like the quality. Plus there is a nail bar when you can have manicures and nail art!!!!!! Love the nail polish colours.

As you can see from the opening image I purchased some lovely products. Its not the full make up collection that London has but at least we have some great products to play with. The textures are beautiul, I love the gold eyeliner pencil it glides on. The highlighters have a lovely creamy texture and are not too heavy. The duo blush and the cream highlighter gave me a healthy glow, and the liquid liners glides on beautifully. I will definitely be going to test out a manicure!

I will definitely be using the products I got in a make up tutorial so watch this space.

I hope you enjoyed my post.

When buying lipstick don’t test on the back of your hand. Firstly its not the same colour as your lips and secondly its a totally different texture. If you really don’t want to try on your lips the next best alternative is to test with your finger as its the same colour as your lips and the texture is similar.
