Maybelline and L’Oreal have launched a whole load of new makeup products and I got given a few goodies to test out and share my thoughts. I am a lover of liners especially cobalt blue so when I eyed this gorgeous colour in the stash I was very happy. I have always reached for my Urban Decay pencil and finally a budget brand in SA has launched this amazing colour and its even brighter and more beautiful.
The last few months I have been testing out and trying budget liquid foundations so that I could report back on which ones are my favourite ones. Sadly we don’t have a huge range here like in the UK but there is a nice little selection I have come up with.
The Budget Liquid Foundations Picks:
1) Bourjois Healthy Mix Gel Foundation R209.95: I absolutely love the Bourjois foundations you know you are in for a winner with any of them. I have currently been using this one and I love the finish, skin looks dewy but not shiny and its packed with vitamin rich ingredients like goji berries, litchi and pomegrantes which deals with anti fatigue and leaves glowing and radiant skin.
2) L’Oreal Lumi Magique R194.95: The Lumi Magique is my most recent purchase and I am absolutely loving it. I had to buy 2 shades Golden Sand and Gold Linen to match my current skin tone as I still have a bit of a tan. I love that the foundation has a pump so no wastage and the foundation just melts beautifully into my skin leaving a glowing natural finish and feels so unbelivably soft. Its a light reflecting foundation with and SPF 15, allowing the radiance of the skin to be recreated as well as great coverage.
3) Revlon ColourStay R200: I saw this foundation being used on a youtube makeup video and wanted to give it a try for myself and see what the hype was all about. Its very lightweight on the skin and you don’t need much product to get coverage a small amount goes a long way. Skin has a beautiful natural finish allowing your skin to shine through which is important for me. My only complaint is that it doesn’t have a pump and its a bit of a mission to get out.
4) Rimmel Match Perfect R139: Another winner for me I absolutely love the finish of this foundation and it really does match my skin tone. Its a perfecting radiance foundation giving the illusion of a flawless finish (remember if you have bad skin you will need to conceal). Great for covering a bit of redness and evening out skintone.
5) Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid R119.95: I am really a big fan of Maybelline and have posted a lot on the products I love and now the Dream Satin Foundation is on my thumbs up list. It applies really easily and has a beautiful finish. Maybelline promise an air whipped foundation with an airbrush finish and I personally have to agree with them. Its lightweight and really does even out skin tone with a medium coverage.
Remember if you have oily skin then these foundations are most likely not for you as they have a luminous dewy finish. If you want the most out of your foundation remember SKINCARE first to really hydrate your skin otherwise you will be disappointed.
Maybelline Eye Studio Diamond Glow
The Maybelline Eye Studio Diamond Glow are the latest eyeshadow quads to hit SA retailing at R134.95 each, I decided to test one of the palettes out for my birthday lunch look.
This palette is called Coffee Drama and is a mixture of shimmery shades from pearl to dark chocolate brown perfect for a subtle smokey eye and can easily be worn day or night. What I was plesantly surprised with is that the shadows have great staying power and lasted all afternoon through to the evening and I just had to do a little touch up when I went out at night.
Highly pigmented shades that blend really beautifully and easily making it a no fuss smokey eye. The pearl shimmer shade I used in the inner corners and under the brow bone, I applied the gold shade on the inner part of my eye and then the lighter brown shade on the outer part of my eye and under the bottom lash line and for the smokey effect I took the dark chocolate in the outer corner of my eye. Remember use clean blending brushes.
The Maybelline Eye Studio Diamond Glow eyeshadows are very pretty. Thumbs up from me.
Normally I wait till its nearing the end of the month but I am loving so many new products from the launches I have attended, what I purchsed in London and products that have been sent for me to review. I feel very lucky that I get to test out so many amazing products and that I can use them for my work as well.
So here is the list of amazing products that I love:
Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Lipstick in 317 : LOVE LOVE LOVE. This matt red lipstick is part of the Christmas Limited Edition collection. I wore it to the Cosmo summer party with a contoured face and lots of mascara. It glides on beautifully and even though its matt it doesn’t dry out your lips which can be a problem for me. I am a massive fan of anything Chanel and their make up is always such amazing quality plus I do love a red lip.
Tom Ford Lipstick in no 15 Wild Ginger: This is the first time I have tried a Tom Ford lipstick I have some eyeshadows and his contour/highlight palette and the quality is so luxurious. I received this lipstick as part of a congratulations for winning Best Beauty Blog so I am one lucky girl. The colour is a bright orange with soja seed extract, Brazilian Murumuru Butter and Chamomilla flower oil which creates an ultra creamy texture. The lipstick glides on and feels so amazing on the lips and very hydrating plus its highly pigmented. The lipsticks don’t come cheap but definitely a great buy for that little bit of luxury in absolutely beautiful packaging.
Smashbox Liquid Halo Foundation: I have just discoverd this foundation and blogged about it as part of the what’s new for Smashbox. I love it as its so light on the skin and feels like you have nothing on. It has 100% Liquid Light Technology that evens out skin for a natural and luminous finish, with gel covered pigments to blur imperfections. I have been testing it out all week and on Friday night put the sweat and hunidity resistant claim to the test. I went to a summer party and danced a lot for quite a few hours and the foundation still looked great when I got home. Definitely one for my pro kit and will be testing out on my Elle beauty shoot.
Maybelline Colour 24Hr Tattoo Metal in no 70 Barely Branded: As you well know I am a massive fan of these cream shadows but what I love about this shade is you can also use it as a highlighter. I have been wearing this cream to create a beautiful highlight on top of my cheek bones, along the bridge of my nose and on my cupids bow. A great budget buy which I can’t get enough of.
Estee Lauder Pure Colour no 12 Fire Sapphire: This shadow is part of the new make collection and its a shade that is so on trend and I am loving. I recently did a Colbalt Blue smokey eye tutorial using a similar colour. Its a great alternative to the black and chocolate brown smokey eye and paired with a nude lip and a flawless face you really can’t go wrong.
By Terry Ombre Blackstar Cream Eyeshadow in no 13: I love this cream eyeshadow pen. I first saw it in a video tutorial on net-a-porter and then ordered it online. By Terry is an amazing brand born from a make up artist and the quality of her products really are amazing. This pen glides on so beautifully and creates a easy but effective smokey eye and for those of you who struggle with make up this pen makes it so easy. Apply to the lid and then blend it.

So September is almost at its end and have gotten my hands on some new products which I have been absoloutely loving and have blogged about a some of them in my product reviews. Each month I find I love certain products so here is what are my favs for the month of September:
Nars Luminous Moisture Cream – Big backstage in the SS14 fashion weeks, of course needed it for my kit. I love this cream it is very light and melts into the skin leaving a beautiful luminous glow and is a perfect canvas for prepping the skin before applying the foundation. LOVE
Lancome Blush In Love no 20 – A beautiful two toned blush with a shimmer pink and a shimmer coral, this blush looks so beautiful on the skin for this spring weather and adds a beautiful pop of colour to the skin. Wear this blush with minimal foundation and lots of mascara and a pop of gloss on the lips.
Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes Mascara – By far the best mascara I have gotten my hands on. At the moment only available in the UK and launched at the beginning of September. Charlotte tilbury is a celebrity make up artist and launched her own make up line earlier this month. This mascara really is amazing. You do not have to curl the lashes just wiggle the mascara from root to tip and the lashes are automatically curled. A key staple for my pro kit.
Maybelline Colour Tattoo Eyeshadow – I blogged about this eyeshadows earlier this month. I absoloutely love them my favourite shade for the moment is Bad to be Bronzed but they really are great quality products. They are so easy to apply either use your finger tips or a flat brush. They lasdt for ages and can be worn alone or as a base for your eyeshadow. I personally love them on their own.
Mac Mineralise Skinfinish in Lightscapade – I discovered this highlighter after watching a Mac make up tutorial. I love the Mineralise Skinfinishes any way and this one really is beautiful for lighter to medium skintones. A beautiful highlighter for luminous skin!
Hope you enjoyed my post. x
I was recently watching some behind the scenes videos on Youtube and came across the Maybelline channel. I have been wanting to try out the Colour Tattoo shadows for a while but just never got round to it. After watching the product being used backstage for fashion week I fell in love immediately. They are easy to use and look beautiful. Sadly not all the colours are availble in SA so I got my lovely friend Charissa to send me some from New York.
I used the Bad to the bronze shade on my beauty shoot yesterday by applying with my fingers on the lid and all the way up to the brow bone. Here is the lovely Emma from my shoot:
I absolutely love the texture of the cream shadows and they glide on beautifully and are long wearing cream shadows that don’t crease and are highly pigmented. A lot of cream shadows crease and don’t have the staying power but this one does. I always used the Mac Paint Pots but this definitely competes with the paint pots. The shadows are budget winner for me and are going to be a key staple in my pro make up kit.
What I also love is that the lighter shade Barely Branded can also be used as a highligter which make it even more of a budget buy as you can use it for both eyes and highlighting. Happy days.

Maybelline 14 Hour Superstay Lipstick
I received the Maybelline Infinitely Fushia lipstick in a big box wrapped and the lipstick was wrapped around a pink scarf. This lipstick is a long wearing lipstick that is supposed to be a light weight lipstick with superstay colour promises not to drag or dry.
I love this colour there is nothing like a bright lipstick to brighten up your complexion and of course is very on trend right now. The colour is very pigmented as you can see on my lips.
(Excuse the terrible pic)
The lipstick did feel a bit dry for me I normally go for more hydrating lipsticks that have a sheen. However to combat this dab carmex before you apply and a little over the lipstick it keeps your lips feeling hydrated and gives it a little sheen and more pop. After 6 hours and drinking 2 cups of tea, eating lunch and having another drink with lunch the majority of the colour is still there but it has definitely faded on the inside of my lips so you will probably have to apply another coat after lunch. However that is pretty good staying power as most lipsticks I have tried fade pretty quickly and this definitely makes it much more cost effective. Another thing I liked about the lipstick is that when I pressed my lips onto the back of my hand it barely any came off!
Definitely one to try and see if it works for you and combining it with Carmex definitely takes away any dry feeling on the lips and there is a great selection of colours!
Hope you enjoy the post. x
Fit Me Maybelline Foundation and L’Oreal Mascara Review
I am currently trying out all the drugstore/high street foundations and Mascara’s. Coming from London we are spoilt for choice but living in Cape Town my choices are limited. So I am on the hunt for foundations I can reccomend to people without them having to break the bank. S I thought I would try out the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation.
PR for Maybelline kindly sent me the foundation to try. Sadly it doesn’t have a pump so you have to carefully add some to the back of your hand. I applied the foundation with a my Real techniques brush and blended in. The foundation has a sheer coverage so if you have pigmentation or bad skin you will need a foundation with a heavier coverage. I liked the finish on my skin, it is very light and doesn’t feel like you are wearing anything at all and my skin felt smooth. It has a dewy finish but not too much so I didn’t need to add powder. However, it doesn’t last for hours so you wil need to reapply in the day.
The L’Oreal Volume Million Excess Lashes mascara has a long wand and its really bendy so its great for getting into the root of the lashes. For someone like me who doesn’t have much lashes it definitely gave me more volume!
Hope you enjoyed the post.
