product reviews

Another month is almost up and I have been so lucky to try out new amazing products via my blog and of course from my shopping trip in London. Each month I try and write up about my monthly favourites in my personal life and in my work. So here is the list:

Benefit 15 Hr Primer: Love this primer I bought in my recent trip to London. Its very light on the skin and glides on beautifully. Its great for prepping skin especially if you suffer from oily skin as its not rich and doesn’t make the skin shiney. I love the packaging and I love the product. A primer is great for minimising pores and helping foundation to last longer and this product definitely keeps the foundation on.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream: Love this product. I have been waiting to get my hands on the cream. At the moment its only available in the UK and its quite pricey at 70 pounds but you don’t need much and its rich so will last you a while. Its an amazing product to really give the skin a boost and its a favourite of mine when I am shooting an editorial as I really want the girls skin to look amazing. I use it on myself for a real pick me up and before I go on a night out so that my skin is really glowing

Maybelline 24 Hr Colour Tattoo Metal in Electric Blue: I recently used this in a make up tutorial and I absolutely love it. Its a great budget   product and amazing worn on its own or as a base before applying powder shadow. I really am a big fan of the colour tattoo cream shadows and can’t get enough of them. A definite must have.

OCC Lip Tar: So happy these have hit Cape Town available at Masque. This brand is called Obsessive Compulsive and is big in the States. What is great about this brand is that its a 100% vegan and cruelty free so we like that. These lip tars are amazing and will do a review later this week. There are loads of shades but I especially love the bright pink shade its a great summer colour. The tars can be used on their own but mix with lip balm so as not to dry lips out or mixed with a lipstick to get the shade you want.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation: I have always liked this foundation but its one I am using every day for myself. Its another great budget product and leaves skin looking beautiful and flawless (if you have bad skin you will need to cover blemishes with concealer). Its made from the same house as Chanel so that is a good indication of the quality. I have had lots of compliments on my skin which I am always happy about especially when I am told I only look 29 and as you all know if you follow my blog I am 37! Available at Clicks in South Africa and Boots in the UK.

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow: Love love love. I am a big fan of contouring and highlighting. Its key to a beautiful face and its a trend we see time and time again. I love the art deco packaging and I love the quality of the product. In my pro kit for sure!

Hope you enjoyed my post. x

This month has been a crazy blur of photoshoots, planning shoots and blogging and testing out amazing new products. Here is my August Essentials list of products I am loving this month and can’t get enough of:

Gosh All Day Moisture Serum: I was sent this to review a while ago but only started trying out this month. I used it on myself before applying the Mac BB cream and my skin looked amazing. So to put the serum to the test I have been using it on my models for some of my recent shoots and I love this product. It glides onto the skin and leaves the skin looking really fresh and feeling so smooth and once I apply the foundation the skin looks beautiful. The serum has two natural based elements Daymoist CLR and Skin Tightner ST leaving the skin fresh and tightened. LOVE

YSL Touch Eclat: An all time favourite and a classic product. I have been going to this product a lot this month to really highlight the face naturally. When my brief is a fresh flawless face then this is a product I reach for to highlight key areas like under the eyes, on the smile lines and around the mouth to really make the lipstick pop.

Mac Pro Conceal/Correct Palettes: I always used my Bobbi Brown concealers until I got my hands on these palettes. I LOVE these concealers as they blend into the skin beautifully and they don’t crease as much and I absoloutely love the texture of this product. What I also like is there are a few shades in the palette and so its easy to conceal under the eyes in a lighter shade but then on the face where needed I can buff in the concealer to blend in with foundation.

Mac Veluxe Pearl Fusion in Brownluxe: Its a limited edition product so you need to get a move on if you want to get your hands on a palette. I bought this shade as its colours that I will always use a lot. I love the texture and I love how the shadows blend in. Gorgeous.

Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate: I use this product on and off purely because I have so many contouring and highlighting products and because its expensive so don’t want to waste it. I love this palette the contour and the highlight are both creams. The highlight is absolutely beautiful for a glowing natural highlight with the element of gloss. Beauty tip apply the highlight on top of the cheek bone before applying foundation and then once the foundation is on go over the highlight area. The contour buffs in beautifully and is perfect for that dewy fresh look.

So June is almost up and even though I have a lot of product for my work I find each month there seems to be some new favourites. Because its winter here and I have pretty much lost my tan since my holiday there are certain products like bronzer  that I have been using on myself that help me feel a little better. Plus there have been some products that I have loved using this month for work:

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bronzer in Aruba: I  bought this product ages ago but having only recently started using this on myself so much so I have kept if for myself and not in my kit. I love the quality of this bronzer and that it has a little shimmer. It buffs in beautifully to my skin and definitely gives me a healthy glow all over my face which is exactly what I need.

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Powder in 30: I can’t get enough of these powders and I definitely go straight to them when contouring. The no 30 has been the most popular one I have reached for as it gives a beautiful natural contour without it being too obvious especially when the make up needs to be more subtle. LOVE

Georgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation: What can I say this product is gorgeous. I love the consistency and how beautifully it blends into the skin. Its a sheer to medium coverage but you can build it up. The skin glows without looking too shiney and definitely gives a  flawless finish. Its a foundation that I defintely reach for when I am shooting for the magazines.

Anastatia Brow Gel: I recently bought these when I was in London from cultbeauty.co.uk. Some celeberity make up artists used it so of course I needed to have them. They come in different shades and I love the quality and how natural the brow looks when you brush the colour through. The gel also helps with the grooming of the brow and sets the hairs.

Mac Prep and Prime Base Lumiere: I am loving this base I bought it a month ago and have been using it on most of my shoots before applying foundation. It gives the skin a glow before applying and doesn’t make the skin too oily and its a great base for applying foundation and ensuring that the foundation stays on longer. I find when on a shoot I don’t have to apply any more foundation through the day.

Smashbox Halo Highlighting Wand: I love this product its another one that I have kept for myself instead of going in the kit. Its a beautiful cream highlighter. I apply on the top of my cheek bones for a healthy glowing look. I just can’t seem to go without it.

Kevin Aucoin Celestial Powder: I bought this powder from Space NK. I am in love with it. Kevin Aucoin was a very famous make up artist  and before he died he launched his own brand. This product is amazing the quality is beautiful. I love this for a highlighter and its one product I can’t get enough of.

My Beauty Picks of the Week

As well as testing out products on myself, I have been testing out products all week on my shoots. Here are my favourite products for the week:

Bourjois Bronzer: I love the packaging of this bronzer as it looks like chocolate and its pretty well priced. I have used my loads and it looks like I have barely used it. It has a great matt finish and really makes me look like I have a healthy looking tan.

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Powders: I have blogged about these powders. What can I say I LOVE THEM! I finally got to test them out on set. On my Grazia shoot I used no 20 to set the foundation and then used no 30 to contour the beautiful Morgan from Boss models. I am totally sold on these powders.

Mac Prep and Prime Highlighting Pens: I have these pens a while but for some reason I didn’t go straight to them on my shoots. I recently used one of them on one of my video tutorials on taking a day to night look. I love the way they give the face a pick me up and have great coverage. My skin instantly looked brighter. Definitely a winner for me.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer: I got this concealer in London. Sadly its not available in South Africa yet. Its an inexpensive concealer and in the past I have always used more expensive brands but I am really love this product. It makes the area under the eyes seem really bright and takes the darkness away and I love the creamy texture.

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation: I recently blogged about this new addition to my kit. I have been putting the foundation to the test and used it on my Women’s Health Shoot and my Grazia shoot. One of the models commented on how light it felt on her skin and on my Grazia shoot Morgan’s skin looked totally flawless when we were looking at the images on the computer. Absolutely am in love with this foundation.
