Revlon Colourstay Shadowlinks

Revlon have introduced their latest eyeshadow offering the Colourstay Shadowlinks making  your life a whole load easier. How annoying is it to buy individual shadows when you buy a palette but you don’t love all the shades. Well now you can create your own eyeshadow palatte with the clever Revlon Colourstay Shadowlinks.

With a selection of shimmery shades and some matt shades you can mix and match your eyeshadows and then link them together allowing you to create your own little palette. Whether you want some light champagne shades or a little smokey eye the great thing is you can make it personalised for yourself.

The texture is pretty good but make sure that you set your lids with your foundation before or a cream shadow to make sure that your eyeshadow will last the distance. A blending brush or a flat brush is perfect for application, they are easy to blend and pack in a good amount of colour.

The Revlon Colourstay Shadowlinks are definitely a great budget buy and even if you buy quite a few you won’t break the bank at R45 per shadow.

Revlon Nearly Naked and Colour Stay

I am always looking for great budget makeup that I can recommend as not everyone can afford to get their make up for high end brands.

I must admit I am really quite impressed with some of Revlon’s offerings like the Nearly Naked, Photoready and Colourstay products. I have been looking for great budget makeup in terms of powders and concealers and I found the Nearly Naked Compressed Powder and the Colour Stay Concealer which I am loving at the moment.

The Colourstay Concealer is creamy in consistency with an applicator so its easy to apply under the eye area and then you just dab in with your ring finger, its also great to even out skintone if you have any redness or pigmentation on your face. I apply where I feel I need it to create a flawless finish.

The Revlon Nearly Naked Powder really is so very light weight and sheer so its perfect to apply over the t-zone once you have applied your make up to set and to create a beautiful silky finish. I used the powder for my Fairlady Editorial shot last week to take away any shine from the darker skin model it worked wonders and looked amazing in front of the camera. The most important thing is that the powder doesn’t look cakey or heavy but just leaves a beautiful finish to the skin.

Key beauty tip: Make sure you have prepped your skin and mositurised so that your make up really does look beautiful.

Both great budget makeup buys.

I love when brands release new products and I am loving these new balms that offer a matt version and laquer version. I got my hands on one of the matt versions and two of the laquer versions.

Revlon Balms 1

The matt balms have a velvety matt look but are moisturising like a lip balm. The balms have a triple complex of Shea, Coconut and Mango Butters nourishes lips. I love the balm as even though is matt my lips still feel great and it glides on beautifully when you apply. They are launching 5 shades that will stay permanently on the shelf and 5 one time shades. Sadly the shade I am wearing Showy is a one time shade so if you love it as much as me then you will need to buy a few.

Revlon Matt BalmThe Laquer balms have a medium buildable colour pay off, and the finish has a high shine finish and highly moisturising on the lips. Plus they all have a peppermint Frangrance and feel refreshing on the lips as well as hydrated. I am also loving the price of R120 so a great budget product with on trend shades.

New: Revlon Lash Potion Mascara and Baby Stick

So a while ago I recieved some new Revlon products and the 2 that stood out the most was the new Revlon Lash Potion Mascara and the Baby Sticks. In the image above I have the mascara on and the Baby Stick on my lips and cheeks.

Revlon Lash Mascara: This new mascara has strengthening proteins that drench lashes with volume and the wand applicator has a triple groove which helps avoid clumping. So what did I think? I like this mascara it definitely gave volume to my very non existent lashes which is what we like and definitely what I need. It didn’t clump at all and you can add 2/3 coats to really get volume.

Baby Sticks: I was really excited to try these out as they are part of the Gucci Westman (famous make up artist) collection. They are meant for both lip and cheek and come in 3 colours. In the picture I have the one on the far right but my favourite is the middle pink shade as this stood out the most on my cheeks and lips sadly the red shade didn’t really show up at all. This products is quite nice in terms of adding a healthy glow to the cheek and making skin look like its got a glow which is what I like in a product personally its just a shame the colours don’t have more pigmentation. For the lips it has a matt effect which I really liked as well especially in the pink shade. If you looking to purchase one go for the pink one its called Pink Passion.

Hope you enjoyed my post. x

As a beauty blogger I have come to realise that most people don’t have the money to spend a fortune on make up and as much as I love the high end products there are some great quality budget products out there. So here are this weeks’s picks:

1) Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Lovesick Passionate – R99 – I have been wanting to try this stain for a while as it looks really similar to the Clinique Chubby Stick. I finally tried it out this week and I really like it. It is really hydrating on the lips and the pink colour was very pigmented and a beautiful bright pink. But beware it really does stain the lips.

2) Catrice Ultimate Shine Lipstick in Kiss Kiss Hibiskuss – R54.95  – Another great product from Catrice this lipstick has a beautiful sheen and really makes your lips pop. I really like texture and also feels great on the lips and is very moisturising. If you are on a budget this really is a great option to be right on trend.

3)Avon Duo Eyeshadow – R69.95 – A great budget brand that has really surprised me. I am already a massive fan of the BB cream. I like this little duo shadow set.  It has a nice texture and blends in easily for a little smokey look.

4) Gosh Boost Your Lashes Mascara – R120 – I was sent this mascara to review a while back and I really like it. The wand is skinny and really gets into the roots and for me who has not much of a lash going on the mascara definitely gave me fuller lashes and a little curl.

5) NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in French Fries – R79.95 – I bought this pencil as I really liked the texture when I was in the shop. The pencil is so easy to apply and create a sexy smokey look. Fill in up to the crease of the eye and then blend along the crease to smooth out the edges. Its easy to take out with you and reapply as your evening progresses.

6) Essence Sun Club Bronzer in no 20 – R49 – A great bronzer and a great price. Its not very shimmery its more matt and very easy to apply and gives a great healthy. Take a large brush and blend in under cheek bones, on your temple, along the bridge of your nose and on your chin.

In my recent shoots I have been asked to do a red lip. Red lips are always on trend and we pretty much see them in every season. I have way too many lipsticks but I feel never enough red lipstick as there are so many shades to choose from from a traffic red to a deep red. Not all colours will suit you so remember to try before you buy.

For the porcelain a more orange based or cherry red like Lady Danger by Mac, for fair skin tone a cooler red works best but you can get away with a brigher red, for a medium skin tone a brighter red like a Mac Russian Red looks amazing and for Olive skin tones you can get away with most of the reds but a bolder red like Ruby from Stila would be perfect and for dark skin I am a fan of Russian Red but again this skin tone can wear most shades. I am a big fan of Mac when it comes to lipsticks as they really cover all the colours and the red lip editorial palette is a winner for me.  So here are my picks and definitely key in my kit and  I really can’t live without:

1) Ruby Woo by Mac

So some of you may know I went overseas for a month and as I am totally beauty obsessed and addicted , so of course I was going to make some purchases. Did I need all of them probably not but I just couldn’t help myself. Here are my latest purchases:

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation: I have been wanting to try this out for ages and add more foundations to my kit. Its light weight and feels amazing on the skin leaving a beautiful glow and silky smooth, and you can build up covearge from sheer to medium. Its not cheap but definitely worth it for me.

Urban Decay Naked Palette: I have been wanting to buy this palette for ages but for some reason I kept deciding against it. However, I thought on this trip why not and I always hear such great reviews. I love it, there are some matt colours but mostly shimmery. The palette is perfect for a natural look or creating a bronze to smokey evening look. I love the quality of the shadows and the colours and it came with a brush and an eye primer!

Revlon Matt Lipsticks – Normally I automatically go for Mac lipsticks that have a sheen. I did have matt lipsticks but not a huge amount. I really like these matt lipsticks and I love the quality as they have a creamy texture and don’t dry your lips plus they are not too pricey. I used Nude Attitude  on my Women’s Health shoot this morning so a definite for my kit.

Yu-Be Moisturiser – I was watching a Pixiwoo Youtube video a few weeks ago and one of the makeup artists mentioned Yu-Be sold at Boots and how amazing this Japenese product was and that it was only 19.99 pounds. Of course I had to try it especially as the Japenese  are amazing when it comes to skincare. Its best applied at night after removing your makeup. It is really thick so you don’t have to apply too much and it smells like Tee Tree Oil. All I can say is I love it because when I wake up in the morning my skin looks amazing and is really smooth and I was aksed the other day had I had a skin peel. So there you go a definite winner. Its available at Boots so if you not in the UK find someone who can get it for you!

Continuing the hunt for a drug store/high street foundation I thought I would try out the Revlon photoready collection. I was sent by their PR in South Africa the foundation, concealer and pressed powder.

The foundation says that is gives “perfected airbrushed skin in any light with complete coverage”. Its oil free and has an SPF of 20 so that’s a bonus. “With photochromatic pigments bend and reflect light to erase every flaw and leaving a soft luminous finish”. There are 9 shades so it won’t cover all skin tones especially the darker skin tones. In South Africa the foundation is R225 and in the UK is 12.99 pounds.

Firstly I am really happy this bottle as it has a pump to avoid any wastage. Before applying the foundation I applied my moisturiser. I didn’t need much foundation at all to cover all of my face and I blended the foundation in with my Real Techniques face brush. My skin definitely felt smooth and had a slight dewy finish so my skin wasn’t left really shiney like some foundations do. The Photoready foundation is one of the more expensive drugstore foundations but its definitely one of the better ones. It has a medium coverage where I find a lot of the cheaper foundations are very sheer and do not cover the imperfections and you need to keep applying. As most liquid foundations they don’t last all day but to keep it on longer make sure you apply the powder or apply again half way through the day.

To finish off the look I used the concealer to cover any redness on my cheeks and under my eyes. The concealer comes in a stick and is really easy to apply leaving the skin feeling smooth. Then I dusted the pressed powder onto the T-Zone to avoid any shine and creasing under the eyes.

The real test for me will be on a photoshoot and see how the foundations works against harsh light so will keep you posted!

Hope you enjoy the post.
