skincare tips

In this glowing skin makeup tutorial I wanted to show how important skincare is when it comes to achieving a glowing complexion. Without a good skincare routine makeup will never look dewy so its key you exfoliate, apply masks and the rest. I chat about a great hydsrating masks, facial oils and basically layer up that skincare before I even get to the makeup part. This look is perfect for those of you who don’t like to wear loads of makeup but want to look heathy. Its also a great look for day time as its super fresh and polished.

Yes the weather is finally changing to gorgeous summer days and while some of you might me thinking I am so pale and tired its time to step it up. There are a few ways to get that gorgeous summer glowing skin to help you on your way and remember its not always beauty products you also need to eat right and get your water dosage in too. A good skincare routine is important plus a few makeup items as well. So here are my tips on how to get your summer glow on:

Whether its winter, summer or spring body oils really are a must. During summer we suffer from dry skin from being in the sun and our skin needs some love and moisture back in the skin and during winter our skin also gets dry because we bath so much. So I wanted to share the Body Shop Body Oils:

I really like the Body Shop Body Oils because not only do they smell great they leave your skin feeling AMAZING. I got my hands on 3 of them the Spa Wisdom, Shea Beautifying Oil and the Honey Bronze Oil.

Spa Wisdom Monoi Miracle Oil R160: Smells so amazing and makes you feel like you are in a spa when you smell it. Its a softening oil for your skin and your hair but I have been using it on my body. As its summer here my skin gets dry quite quickly so you can either apply straight onto the skin leaving your skin feeling really soft and hydrated or add some into a bath but just add 2/3 drops. I have been applying straight onto my skin beacuse currently I need the extra hydration. I am always very wary of applying oil to my hair unless its specifically just for hair so I used it 2 hours before washing my hair which left it feeling really soft.

Body Shop Body oils

Shea Butter Beautifying Oil R120: This oil is made with a lightweight blend of nut oils including Marula Oil that gives instant hydration to the skin with a beautiful shimmery finish. Again this oil can be used on the body, hair and also the face but if you are going to use on your face rather take 1/2 drops and apply to your skin at night rather than in the day you will wake up with beautiful soft skin (if you suffer from breakouts or oily then this won’t be for you). I like to apply this oil on my legs especially as I find that is always the driest part of my body and on my arms to give a beautiful skin to the skin. Again for the hair either apply a couple of drops before bedtime or at least 2 hours before you wash out.

Body Shop Shea

Honey Bronze Shimmering Dry Oil R220: This is my favourite of the Body Shop Body oils because it gives a hint of a bronze shimmer to the skin and gives a healthy glow so perfect during summer to enhance your tan, great in spring when the weather is warmer and you want to show off some skin and also great in winter to shimmer up your skin. It gives a honey bronzed glow and has a non greasy finish and basically enhances your tan. If you have really pale skin it most likely won’t give you the colour you looking for so better to go with a body self tanner but for someone like me who has a more olive skin tone it really enhances my colour and of course I love a bit of shimmer. Its all about making your skin feel a little bit healthier. My complaint is that it would be better if it had a pump as you have to be very careful how much you pour out the bottle so be careful not to pour out too much.

Body Shop Honey Bronze

Three really nice Body Shop Body Oils and if you are in to oils then try one of these out. I am a big fan of the skin looking glowing and hydrated so they all work for me.

So what did I think?

Nip and Fab

I love the products and my skin felt so hydrated after using them and even though I am off testing other products I still use the eye cream every morning and the face cleanser plus the pads are great for removing excess make up and leaving my skin glowing. So here are the products I used:

Glycolic Fix Cleanser R234.99: Foaming facial cleanser with Glycolic and Apple Amino Acids. Its purpose is to deeply cleanse, tighten and tone the skin. Its a brightening cleanser that works to rid skin of all traces of grime and make up whilst giving the skin a refreshing boost. The Glycolic Acid works to retexture the skin to hide the appearance of unwanted lines and wrinkles, whilst the Olive Oil deeply hydrates the skin. Key Benefits: GA helps stimulate cellular activity and collagen synthesis to improve skin elasticity and boost radiance. Apple Amino Acid provides a dense and skin-softening foam whilst protecting the skin’s natural barrier. Olive Oil reduces water loss to increase hydration for smooth and soft skin.

What more can I say on the cleanser it has left my skin feeling fresh and so smooth every day and I have been getting constant compliments on my skin. If you going to invest in any product that cleansing is one of the key items as we all need a clean face!

Glycolix Fix Exfoliating Pads R 264.99: These innovative wipes are packed with Glycolic Acid to improve skin tone and texture. These anti ageing pads contain Glycolic and Hyaluronic Acid that help stimulate cell turnover for a smoother brighter complexion. The pads also contain blue daisy to soothe skin while skin will appear smoother, fresher and brighter after using the pads.

Use these pads after cleansing and wipe along your face, neck and decollete. You can use these pads once or twice a day. I really like these pads as they made my skin feel really fresh afterwards and gave me a glow which is what I am constantly wanting for my skin.

No Needle Fix Serum R364.99: This serum is an SOS lifting and intensive plumping serum containing cellative-form to plump fine lines and improve overall skin’s tonicity and elasticity and indinyl ca to hydrate and condition skin. Wrinkle buster osilift acts as an instant tensor blurring imperfections and smoothing wrinkles while keeping make up firmly in place.

Apply by massaging into your face and neck especially where the areas on your face you have expression lines and make sure you apply before your moisturiser. I used the serum every morning for a month and in combination with the moisturiser my skin really felt amazing and glowing by the time I applied my foundation.

Instant Radiance Wrinkle Fix R 334.95: This beauty pump adds radiance and improves elasticity leaving skin conditioned and hydrated. It contains specially formulated hyaluronic acid filling spheres which bind up to 1000 times their weight in water to visibly fill and plump the skin for noticeably smoother fine lines and wrinkles. The moisturiser is enriched with a combination of essential oils like grapeseed oil which helps tighten and tone and meadowfoam seed oil to fight the signs of ageing and protect against the harmful effects of the environment which helps leaving skin hydrated and protected. Working in harmony with jojoba seed oil, evening primrose oil, rose hip oil, glycerin, lanolin and mica.

This cream is all about giving the skin a glow which is a big YAY for me. I love when skin looks radiant even before any make up is applied because it will shine through the foundation. When it comes to applying make up its so key that your skin has been prepped and this is all down to your skincare routine. I love how Nip + Fab leaves my skin looking and feeling.

Triple-Action Eye Cream R299.99: Love love love this eye cream and its still part of my beauty routine even though I am trying other products. This eye cream helps reduce the appearance of puffiness and dark circles while hydrating to fight against premature ageing. This eye cream fix works to break down stubborn crows feet and deep-set wrinkles around the area for a fresh youthful glow. This 3-in-1 formula combines red algea to target dark circles, tetra peptide to reduce puffiness and shea butter to hydrate and soften so for me its a definite must for my beauty regime.

When I am tired which is a lot I get dry under my eyes but with this cream my skin is hydrated all the time and it seems by dark circles aren’t as noticeable.

Its a cool brand with a lot of press and celebrity fans. Plus the prices are more affordable so you can at least incorporate some items into your beauty regime. Go check it out.

So Spring is almost upon us in Cape Town and I am off next week to France for some sun and relaxation and although I have a slight tan from the few sun days we have had I want to cheat a little and make myself look really healthy. I will explain  key ways to cheat a glowing tanned body. In my recent shoots the models with the pale skin needed to look healthy especially since we are shooting summer clothing. There are a few tricks I use to make the girls look healthy and glowing:

  • Moisturise using a deep nourishing cream this is the first step to creating a glow on the skin.
  • For your neck and chest area apply some Mac face and body with you hands to cheat some colour and make sure your face and neck are all matching.
  • Apply some highlighter on your collar bone I love Inglots Body Shimmers or Becca Luminous Skin Finish especially if you are quite pale and don’t want to use a bronzer.
  • Take a buffing brush and buff in the highlighter or a little bit of bronzer and buff down the outside of your arm to cheat that glow. For darker skin girls you can go for the dark bronzer and for paler skin girls go for something like Mac lustre drops.
  • If you legs are looking pale you can also apply some Mac Face and Body on your legs and then buff a highlighter down your legs to give that extra glow.
