Its that time of year that we need to change our makeup and start adding pops of colour. We are now in spring in SA and its all about pops of color on your eyes and lips. In this video I chat about the makeup trends from the Mac trend book for SS16 and decided on a pop of colour on the eyes but something that is really wearable. This video is the first of my SS16 makeup tutorials that will be coming your way.
Colbalt Blue Eyeliner Tutorial for Elle Magazine
Here is my latest video tutorial on set for Elle Magazine South Africa shooting an eye editorial with the beautiful model Hilda from Fusion. I decided what best way to do a video was on set to see the magic happening. This video is a cobalt blue eyeliner tutorial and I wanted to show this one because its a massive trend look. Hilda’s skin is already prepped with Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Perfectly Nude foundation and the Mac Pro and Conceal Palette in Light. I filled brows in already using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow palette and finished off lashes with new Smashbox X-rated mascara.
Its that time of the year again where we see all the beautiful makeup trends on the catwalk. New York Fashion Week is always the first to kick off. The key trend here really is the skin in all the looks whether its the fresh face look to something subtle on the eyes. Everything is very pretty and easy to recreate at home.
So here are some key beauty trends SS15 New York Fashion Week:
Loving the gloss trend its always one of my favourites and the easiest way for us mere mortals to do at home is try is put a little bit of eight hour cream on your lids, it has the same effect and isn’t sticky and messy on the eyes.
Loving the pretty pink/purple shadow seems this shade is always on trend for spring summer am definitely going to be doing a trend makeup tutorial with this eye look.
Nothing is prettier than a little bit of bronze on the lids to scream summer at you.Its so pretty on pretty much any colour of skin and looks phenomenal with the flawless skin and subtle contouring.
Love love love candy pink lips its a perfect way to feel summery and add some colour without feeling your lips look too bold. I am currently sporting candy pink toe nails as its Spring and its pretty.
Will keep you all updated on London, Paris and Milan on what’s hot for beauty.
Mac Pro Lipsticks
Looking for something to do on a Sunday and in need of a pick me up then a bit of beauty shopping may be just what you need to get yourself summer ready. I got my hands on 3 of the Mac Pro Lipsticks that are on counter now and I am in lipstick heaven.
What I love about Mac is that they are always bang on trend and they always bring out seasonal lines so we never get bored. The Mac Pro Lipsticks are not all new but sometimes we forget about the oldies which are amazing too so Mac have relaunched and added some new shades and they are busy selling out.
The collection has a new nude Peachstock and the rest is from Pink’s to Purple’s and a Neon Orange thrown in there which is a brighter shde than my favourite Morange. The only one I now need to add is Sin a beautiful deep berry shade.
These shades the Neon Orange, Violetta and Show Orchid are the perfect shades to rock the Spring/Summer 14 trend and no matter how tired you look throw on a bold lip and everything just seems to look so much better.
Have you tried any of the Mac Pro Lipsticks yet?
This video is a trend makeup tutorial, I saw this look online from the AW14 Couture Fashion Week back in Feb for the Versace show and I loved it so much I decided to do a video tutorial for the look. Its all about the eyes with a pop of bronze/gold, black liner in the waterline and a pop of blue in the inner corners of the eye.
In this trend makeup video I used:
Mac Prep & Prime Base Lumiere
Smashbox Halo Liquid Foundation
Mac Correct and Conceal Palette
Smashbox Always Sharp Eye Pencil in Black
Urban Decay Naked Palette using Half Baked
Mac High Def Cyan Eye Pencil
Mac Brow Pencil in Fling
Maybelline Collosal Volume Express Mascara
Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick
Chanel Healthy Glow Powder
Mac Pro Lip Palette in Modern Browns
Ben Nye Translucent Finishing Powder
Hope you enjoyed my trend makeup tutorial.
I really am a big fan of Stila products if some of you may know. There are 3 BB creams to choose from the Beauty Balm, Bronzing Beauty Balm and Illuminating Beauty Balm. I chose to review the Bronzing Beauty Balm as have been wanting to try it out for a while and the bronzed look is a big Spring/Summer trend.
The balm can be applied either to clean skin, mixed with foundation/tinted moisturiser or alternatively buff the balm in over foundation as a bronzer which also looks amazing. You can see the balm on the back of my hand is dark so if you are pale don’t apply a whole load over your face it will be too much. If you looking for a healthy glow then apply the tinest amount to the back of your hand and buff over your skin to cheat a healthy glow.
I already have a bit of a tan after my holiday so I tried applying it to straight onto my skin. At first I looked really dark but then after a while it settled into my skin and I looked really healthy. This product is definitely a great product for summer when you have a tan and want to add a little more colour . Alternatively if its winter time and you need a pick me up then use it as a bronzer. Add only a tiny amount onto the back of your hand and buff into your face with a buffing brush. Apply the balm after applying your foundation where the sun would naturally hit your face, its basically like using a powder bronzer. Another way to use the bronzing balm is mix a little in with the Stila HD Beauty Balm and then buff into skin with a buffing brush.
I really like this product it has a good consistency and leaves skin feeling really smooth as well as leaving you looking really healthy. Definitely a product that can help you stay on trend. Will post a video tutorial soon and show you all how it looks.
Hope you enjoyed the post. x
I did a trend beauty shoot last week for a local South African retailer. One of the looks was the big trend velvet skin. This look is all about a flawless skin with a matt finish. But the difference with this finish is that the powders being used are the latest technology in make up.
Here is how you can create this look:
- Make sure you have done your daily beauty routine and moisturise before getting started.
- Gently buff in either a sheer liquid foundation or a BB cream if you have good skin. If your skin is pigmented or you have bad skin then opt for a foundation that will give you a medium/full coverage.
- Conceal in areas where needed so under the eyes, around the nose and any areas where there is redness.
- They key to this look is using a powder to set the look and give a luminous matt finish. Take a large powder brush and gently sweep the powder all over the face.
- To finish off this minimal look apply mascara, fill in your brows and set with a gel and apply a lip gloss or nude lipstick.
Here are some products to help you achieve the look:
I recently did hair and makeup for a beauty trend shoot for a local South African retail client. One of the looks was a natural flawless face and a bold red lip and for the hair a simple top knot. Here is how I created the look.
Face: I applied Estee Lauder Day Wear Cream all over the face and then buffed in Benefit Oxygen Wow Oh So Flawless Foundation and for concealer the Bobbi Brown creamy concealer under the eyes and around the nose. I highlighted using a cream highlighter (no longer on the maket so try one of Topshop’s cream highlighter’s) on the top of the cheek bone up to the temple, on the bridge of the nose and on the cupid’s bow. For contouring I buffed in Benefit Hoola under the cheek bone, along the jaw line and on the temple.
Eyes/Brows: I applied Benefit cream shadow in birthday suit on the lid with a Mac 239 brush, I blended Mac Scuplt in the crease of the eye with a Mac 219 blending brush and then for extra intensity I applied Bobbi Brown eyeshadow in sable in the outer corner of the eye. I applied Inglot AMC Pure Powder pigment in no 14 on the lid and in the inner corner of the eyes. I brushed the brows upwards filled the brows using Benefit Browzing in light with a Mac 266 angle brush. I applied 2 coats of Maybelline Falsies Express Mascara.
Cheeks: I lightly dusted Mac blush in Peaches.
Lips: Applied lip balm, then traced the outline of the lips using Mac lip liner pencil in Brick and then applied with a lip brush Mac lipstick in Ruby Woo.
Hair: I spritzed the hair with Osis hairspray and then brushed the hair upwards into a high ponytail. I secured the hair and teased and then twisted the hair into a bun and pinned.
Nails: I applied Ciate Nail polish in Sand Dune.

Bright Lips and Bold Brows
If you have been following my blog you would have seen an overview of trends from the fashion weeks for SS13 and AW13. Of course around the world spring is here so its all about bright lips and bold groomed brows. If you are in South Africa where I currently live then we are only now hitting the AW12 trends in hair and make up. But even though itts Autumn now in Cape Town the sun is shining so bring on the bright lips.
The look is all about fresh beautiful skin, a touch of mascara, beautiful dark thick brows and a bold lip whether it be red or bright orange. Remember to keep skin looking flawless you need to be consistent with your beauty routine. Cleanse, tone and exfoliate and keep your skin hydrated and of course drink lots of water.
Create the look by using a sheer foundation like Mac face and body if you have really amazing skin try Estee lauder BB cream. To make the skin appear brighter mix a touch of Stila Stay All Day 10-in-1 Illuminating Beauty balm with your foundation.
A touch of peach blush on the apples of your cheek. Add a highlighter by the tear duct of your eyes to make the eyes pop. Brush brows upwards and fill them in either using pencil or powder. Try Gosh or Bobbi Brown brow kit. To set the brows and ensure the pencil or shadow lasts apply a clear brow gel from Mac. If you already have full brows just brush through and set with the clear gel.
For a bold lip try Morange or Ruby Woo lipsticks from Mac Cosmetics. But remember try the lipstick on first these colours will not suit all skin tones. Or alternatively if you are on a budget try one of the Topshop lispticks. Remember to keep lips hydrated and exfoliated. Use Carmex or Elizabeth Arden 8 hour lip balm.
Hope you enjoyed my post.
