Jules makeup Bag

Jules Makeup Bag 1

The first in the series of The Makeup Bag I asked the girls from All Dolled Up Beauty Blog to share with us what its their makeup bag right now and Jules kindly shared with us what’s she is currently using for her every day makeup. I have been following their blog for a while and I love their posts and when I met them I knew I wanted to collaborate with the girls. Jules always has a fresh looking complexion so here is how she achieves it:

This look is all about a quick makeup face when Jules doesn’t have the time do do an eye or contour the whole face but wants that glowing face when she steps out the door.

“I have combination skin that can get very oily in the T-zone but also eats foundation around my chin so I use the the Smashbox Photo Finish More than Primer Blemish Control which keeps my foundation smooth and even throughout the day and treats potential breakouts with 2% salicylic acid.

I have a million foundations but the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation (Shade: 53) is the perfect colour for me right now. I was previously using the Smashbox Liquid Halo foundation (which I also love) but the shade I have is slightly too dark for me at the moment. I’m a HUGE fan of this product: it’s a great, neutral shade, the texture is smooth and lightweight, and it looks really natural on the skin.

When it come to makeup brushes the Real Techniques Buffing Brush is the one I pick up nine times out of ten when I need to apply foundation. It makes the process completely effortless and always creates a flawless finish. It’s such a pity that Real Techniques isn’t available in South Africa!

I love the Wake Me Up foundation for a dewy, youthful glow and the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer (Shade: Ivory)  is equally smooth and illuminating. It’s so easy to blend and it does. not. crease. I don’t even have to set it with powder.

The Soap & Glory Archery Brow Pencil (Shade: Love is Blonde) double-ended brow pencil is an absolute dream, the felt tip helps to fill in gaps while the waxy crayon allows you to shape and shade in the rest of the brow. I use the disposable spoolie to brush through them before and after so they look nice and neat.

For the most  effortless eye make-up in the world I use the MAC Paint Pot in Groundwork; I simply smooth it over my lid with one finger, blend out the edges with another and then smudge the excess into my lower lashline. And voila, instant subtle smokey eye!

For my eyes I use the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal (Shade: Black) on my upper waterline for a bit of added definition and to add some extra depth to my lashline. If I’m feeling particularly energetic then I might smudge a little of this along the outer edge of my lashline too.

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curlers – I mean. Obviously.

For the lashes I love the L’Oréal Miss Manga Mega Volume Mascara (Shade: Violet)  I know purple mascara sounds scary but this one is gorgeous. It’s dark enough that it looks black at first glance, but when your eyelashes catch the light it looks absolutely stunning. I get compliments on this almost every single time I wear it and it’s truly flattering for all eye colours.

The best blush in the world is the Benefit Dallas Blush, full stop. It’s the perfect rosy brown that gives the cheek a bronzed and contoured look in one sweep, and bringing it up onto the temples just adds to the “just back from a summer holiday” effect. I’ve had this for years and I never get tired of it.

The Real Techniques Blush Brush is one of my go to brushes because the fluffy, tapered shape is perfect for seamlessly blending out blush and bronzer and I use this brush every single day for both.

A recent purchase the MAC Patisserie lipstick inspired by Lily (Pebbles) and Anna (VDM), this has become my ideal everyday nude lip colour. Layered underneath the Nyx Butter Gloss in Creme Brûlée, it’s just perfection.

Thanks Jules for sharing your favourite makeup products definitely going to check out the Creme Brûlée as one can never have enough nude lippies right. If you don’t know the blog go  check out Alldolledup.co.za

I seriously can’t believe Feb is almost over but its been another great month of beauty discoveries and rediscovering products I have in my kit. This post is kind of like what’s in my bag as its products I just can’t get enough about and have stood out from the crowd and products I just seem to reach for:

1) Mac Lightful Softening Lotion is my latest obsession. I bought mine overseas as it hadn’t come out yet in SA but I am pleased to say its here and also available online. Prepping skin before I apply make up on a shoot is vital as its the difference between OK looking skin and wow skin that just looks unbelievable. I can’t stress enough how important a beauty routine is. With this bad boy I find when models come on set being outside makes skin dirty and this lotention takes away any excess dirt, helps restrict pores and leaves skin feeling fresh. Apply onto a cotton wool pad and then apply to your whole face as if you taking make up off.

2) Revlon Colourburst Matt Balm in Audacious is a new favourite of mine. They launched this month in SA available at Clicks and I have to say I am a fan. I was sent a bright pink matt balm which I blogged about last week and then I bought this beautiful orange shade for myself and I am loving it. Even though its matt it doesn’t dry out your lips and I am a fan of orange lips. With a dewy finish on the skin and lots of mascara its definitely one of my favourite looks.

3)Bourjois CC Cream is one I can’t get enough off its one I have replaced foundation with on a daily basis as it has such great coverage and leaves my skin feeling soft and glowing which is what I love. Most CC creams I have tried are just too sheer for me or don’t come in my shade but this one ticks both boxes. A definite winner.

4) Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Perfectly Nude Foundation this one is my new foundation obsession. I went to the launch at the beginning of this month and really was so impressed by it. I will do a full post this week as it launches early March in SA. The coverage is sheer to medium but you can build it up, it glides onto the skin so beautifully and leaves a gorgeous finish. I have also used it on set and it reads beautifully in front of the camera so you know if you wearing it you will be camera ready.

5) Smashbox BB Cream Eyes just landed on my desk last week and I tried it on my tired eyes and again love at first sight with this product. It comes with a brush applicator so you can apply straight under the eye and then pat in with your ring finger. It has a natural finish but also gives a beautiful glow under the eyes banishing those terrible dark circles. Again will do a full review but needed to share ASAP. Will be available in March.

This month for me has been about perfecting skin and finding all the ways to have a beautiful glow for myself and for the models I do make up for. Its about enhancing natural beauty and making you feel beautiful.

Hope you enjoyed my post. x
