I am busy doing an amazing makeup course with Val Garland one of the rock star makeup artists and this week we have been focusing on our pro kits. It got me to thinking what are the key items I can’t live without and its boiled down to items that really have multiple uses and allow you to be a bit creative.
I bang on about the Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream so it really comes at no surprise that its in my must have items. Its a life safe for lips when they are dehydrated, but also acts as a gloss either on its own or over a lippie. It can be used on the lids for the gloss eye or on top of the cheek bones for that amazing shine and on the body to create a shine on the skin.
The Mac fluidline black track is realy my go to for the graphic eye, cat eye or as a base for a smokey eye when you working with colours but you can also use as a mascara if you need I just love it.
The Mac 217 blending brush has always been my best friend because not only can you create an amazing undone eye or smokey eye, you can seamlessly blend in your concealer over your foundation or create a beautiful lip all with just one brush.
Every makeup artist needs a neutral palette and even though I love my Chanel little quads I love to have a palette all in one that can work the no makeup trend, the subtle smokey or that 70’s trend that is so big right now. The Mac warm neutrals palette just seems to one that I can’t live without right now. You can even fill in darker brows with the chocolate shade or add highlights with the bronze or paler shimmer shades.
Highlighter seems to be the one product I can’t live without, because even if I am barely using any base highlighting the complexion gives a luminous glow making the skin look amazing, plus you can use on the body like the collar bone or down the arms or legs, I love Becca shimering skin perfector its just an all rounder.
The Bobbi Brown concealer/foundation palette is perfect for pretty much most skin tones but I also double it up as a contour product especially for the darker girls as well as toning down brows with the lighter shades.
Lip balm is one of those products you always need everyone always has a dry lip so Carmex is my go to beacuse its not really shiney and really does the trick, but I can also use it as a highlighter to add shine to the skin.
I am obsessed with my Sigma flat kabuki brush I pretty much use it every time I shoot to create flawless looking skin but also great for adding texture with products if I working on a beauty shoot.
Moisture moisture moisture is my number one for makeup application, if I can’t use foundation for a real no makeup makeup look then making skin look good is top priority. The Dermalogica antioxidant hydramist never fails me it makes the models feel amazing and adds the glow I am always wanting.
I could go on and on because as a makeup artist we need lots of things. But here are just some key essentials.
What;s your go to product?
