On my last shoot the team sat me down and asked me about the whole skincare process. So many people get confused or stressed about each step and what to splurge on and what to save on. There are really are so many steps from cleansing, to exfoliating and applying a masque. For me a face serum is one of those items you just need to splurge on and its a step that I never ever miss. I actually find applying a serum one of the most important steps when I am getting a model ready. Most of the time the models have been travelling a lot or are tired and a bit run down. Applying a serum gives that extra boost and hydration to the skin that a moisturiser on its own just can’t.

In the image above I was shooting a hair story this picture is raw and hasn’t been retouched at all. The model was still a bit ill and had been struggling with dehydrated skin. On this occassion I used a new serum that I recently purchased the Eco Diva Anti Age Face Serum which really helps with hydration and restoring the supplness of your complexion. Its such a beautiful product and its all natural.

Serums basically have a whole load of active ingredients and anti oxidants that penetrate deep into the epidermis. Basically its the miracle step to your whole skincare routine. You apply the serum after you have cleansed and if its also your day to exfoliate and add a masque then apply after all those steps. You need to make sure your skin is totally clean and all the dead skin has been removed so when it comes to applying the serum can actually penetrate deep into your epidermis. There really is no point missing the other steps and thinking your serum is going to help all your skincare concerns. But remember you don’t have to splurge as much on the previous steps.

Serums have as totally different texture to a moisturiser and are mostly lipid based which allows those active ingredients to really penetrate the skin. Depending on what your skincare concern is different serums help with wrinkles, hydration, pigmentation, brightness and stressed irritated skin. When I apply a serum normally for a model or fpr myself I focus on brightening, hydration and anti ageing.

Why are serums so pricey?? Well basically its because the fact that they have the ability to soak into your skin, getting those high does of concentrated active ingredients to your skin. You normally only need a spea size of the product and massage all over. As well as a day time serum you can also get your hands on a night time serum that realy works on your complexion while you are sleeping. My favourite night time serums are the Khiels Midnight Recovery, Dermalogica Overnight Serum Repair and Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. You seriously can’t go wrong with these bad boys.
